My Computer Systems updated 14. April 2008

This is part of my current setup made up of old computers (PCs) and my new 2.4GHz PC.
I advise people who are new to computers not to obtain new high speed (read expensive) systems to do what most newbies need. If you have plenty of money to spend, that's fine. If you want to edit movies, play fast games, print big pictures, show movies then a fast PC or Apple is required. But for the rest of us an older slower computer is adequate.

I use Pentiums.
A 400MHz, a 350MHz and now a 2.4GHz system. Two of the older PCs have 92Mb of RAM.
The 350MHz one is my main Internet PC as I use GNU/Linux XANDROS. This PC I use to evaluate software before installing on another computer. It may seem strange but I have XANDROS V2 installed on the two hard drives so I have dual boot.
The 400MHz is my archiving PC to write/burn data to CD ROMS running M$ Win 98 and M$ XP.
I have another P$ 2.6mHz unit with GNU/Linux-Mint and M$ Windows NT 2000 on it at the moment.
The 2.4GHz is where I design these Web site pages. I also triple boot it into either GNU/Linux S.U.S.E. (9.2), M$ Windows 98 or M$ Windows XP. I have installed a Leadtek Capture card in it so am now capturing Video from VHS tapes. I have installed a DVD Writer on it which is for my family video captures. During August I installed a SCSI controller board and a SCSI hard drive of 17GB capacity. So this PC now has three harddrives and two optical drives. If anyone reading this has bigger SCSI drive for sale please send me an E-mail, the address is at the bottom of this page.
For my DTP and image editing work I usually use the this PC in GNU/Linux SuSE using Scribus and The GIMP or sometimes M$ Windows 98 system, the VDU (monitor) is a 40cm (17inch) unit. The photo above shows our son John working at it. I purchased the box at a Sunday Computer Market new less VDU for $499.00. I installed GNU/Linux SuSE and both M$ Windows an W XP OS' myself.

I have many others including utilities as most of us have but no games other than the Linux Mandrake and MS little built-in ones. Many people know that I do not use Microsoft Operating Systems if I don't have to which means I also use GNU/Linux instead. The same applies to applications.
