About the Artist
MARIA FIELD, self-taught artist, chocoholic and mother of two (and wife of one) was born in Brisbane in 1963. Her love of art began at the age of 5 when she received a 36 colour paint box, which became her most treasured possession.
Maria is constantly inspired by the sheer beauty of nature and the world around her and she strives to portray this love in all her work. She delights in creating colourful and detailed watercolours, loving the challenge of the spontaneous, fresh and exciting medium with her work encompassing many subjects. Light/Shadows and colour always attract her attention.
She also loves to create vibrant floral oils and acrylics, impressionistic pastels and even cartoon murals.
She has also gained a reputation for her detailed pastel Pet Portraits for which she receives many commissions.
Maria enjoys sharing her love of art by teaching several weekly classes (see Class information and Student Comments), tutoring for the University of Southern Queensland Toowoomba McGregor School (see McGregor School) and doing regular workshops and demonstrations.
Since commencing competing in shows in 2003, Maria has won over 51 awards, including 16 Firsts and “Champion of Show” at the Samford show 2007 and “Reserve Champion” 2009. She was commissioned by the Lord Mayor's Office to do a watercolour painting of Brisbane as an international gift and three of her paintings have been bought by the Ipswich Art Gallery for their permanent collection.
Her
works are held in private and corporate collections throughout
